Built for the corner nobody thought a plant could survive
Zamioculcas zamiifolia stores water in thick underground rhizomes, which is how it survives three weeks without watering. Its glossy leaves reflect what little light reaches them, which is why it stays looking healthy in conditions that turn other plants pale and leggy.
Where it beats a snake plant
Both handle low light, but ZZ handles genuinely dark interior rooms better. If a desk has no line of sight to any window at all, this is the plant.
What to expect
Slow growth
ZZ plant grows slowly. A new shoot every few months is normal. Some recipients find this dull, which is worth knowing if your team enjoys watching plants develop. Money plant is the opposite in that respect.
Mild toxicity
The sap can irritate skin and mouth if chewed. This rarely matters on an office desk but does matter for gifts going to homes with pets or small children. We can flag it on the care card.
Pot pairing
The dark glossy foliage looks best against a matte solid or embossed pot in a light tone. Glossy pots compete with the leaves.
